An evening at Tijouri - Radisson Blu Atria, Bangalore!

Tijouri in Hindi means coffer. Isn’t an amazing feeling to visit a restaurant with the same name? It speaks a lot. Recently Radisson Blu Atria Hotel has revamped their Indian Fine Dining restaurant and now it is Tijouri. This was my first time at Radisson Blu and the new fine dining Indian restaurant surely caught my attention. Nestled in the heart of the city near Palace Road, Radisson Blu Atria Hotel is one of the iconic hotels which you should visit for personal or business dining.

Tijouri stands out for its elegant interiors, wall paintings, beautiful cutleries, dim light setup, and of course mouth-watering food. They have included quite a few interesting South Indian dishes to the new menu, thus a wonderful Pan Indian experience is assured to their patrons. Executive Chef Kashi made sure that each one of us had a great time at Tijouri.

What we relished –

We started with a mocktail which tasted like Apple fizz drink.

Shuruaat (Appetizers)

Hare Matar ki Tikki – Green peas mash stuffed with dry nuts, and cheese, cooked on a griddle.
Raan-e-Murgh – Stuffed Chicken drumstick marinated with Awadhi Spices, cooked in clay pot oven.

Masala Kuzhi Paniyaram – Rice dumpling with South Indian tempering, served with spicy Guava Chutney. Guava chutney was amazing; something new to my palate.

Gilafi Sheekh Kebab – Lamb mince mixed with spices, cheese, onion, and capsicum cooked in a clay pot oven.

While enjoying the delicious appetizers, I got my favorite drink – Cocktail made of Vodka, mint and Green Chilli. It was spicy and refreshing.

Mukhya Bhoj (Main course)

The main course was exceptionally good.  They served the Tadka wali Dahi ( Hung curd with spicy tempering), Chef’s special Bhindi Palak ki Bhurjee, Dum ka Murg (tender chicken pieces in rich cashew nut gravy), Nalli ka Salan (Chef’s special Dum cooked lamb shanks), and Tijouri Dal Makhani (creamy black lentil gravy made of tomatoes, ginger, and garlic cooked overnight on slow charcoal fire). To polish off these gravies we had hot Naans, roti and Saffron dum rice. The main course was paired with Tijouri special ‘Khaara Masala Spiced Wine’ which was spiced Merlot wine. This drink will go well with our Masaledar Indian food.

Mithai (Desserts)

Khubhani ka Meetha (The royal Nizami special dessert made of dried apricots, honey, nuts and served with rabdi).

Boondi paan baked yogurt – Betel leaf flavored baked yogurt with homemade boondi. I loved the texture and consistency of baked yogurt but didn’t really like the betel flavors in baked yogurt.

I am happy about one thing – our Chefs are coming up with out of box ideas to create magic with Indian food.  As a Home Chef and Food Blogger, I would say creativity at its best when you play around with Indian recipes just like the Betel leaf flavored Baked yogurt. It’s an acquired taste, not everyone will love it but the experiment which Chef created is just magical.

Overall I enjoyed my first visit to Tijouri. This is a perfect place for your romantic dinner with good food and ambiance. A meal for two would be ₹ 2500/- (approximately). #Yougottatryit

Staycation at Brigade Signature Club Resort, Devanahalli, Bangalore!

I believe in this quote - “People don’t take trips, trips take people” by John Steinbeck.
This is what I felt when I did a staycation a few weeks ago at the Signature Club Resort, Devanahalli. Easter just got over and for working people, it’s hard to find a holiday in coming few months. A staycation is a perfect way to enjoy your sweet little time from your busy schedule. My hubby and I have spent quality time in few resorts before and club resort concept is not that unfamiliar to us. Brigade Orchard where Signature Club Resort is located is very beautiful and calm property which is spread across in 130 acres smart township. They believe in Green Carpet experience for their patrons. The Signature Club Resort is filled with lush greenery and fresh air. So when you are here forget about the hustle bustle of the city life.

We took almost 1.5 hours to reach this place from HAL side (by cab). As it is Brigade group’s property it is well maintained and staffs here are very sweet and helpful. After welcoming us with a refreshing welcome drink, we went through the usual check-in procedures. They have 45 executive rooms and 5 Suites, 28 King size rooms and 12 twin bedrooms. The spacious guest rooms have basic amenities like Wi-Fi connectivity, TV, work desk, mini bar, washroom with  24/7 hot water availability, comfortable mattress, clean linens and a balcony which overlooks the greenery of Brigade property. We got room no: 111 and I was so excited to see my lucky number as the room number.

As it was a staycation, we didn’t want to waste a single minute. So we quickly freshened up and came out of room to take the resort tour. Few of my fellow bloggers were also there and we had one helluva fun time. We were greeted by Mr. Rahul from Marketing team who took us for the resort tour. This can be a perfect place for weekend getaways as well as corporate team outing as they have ‘n’ number of things to entertain you.

With birds chirping all around, walking in this property is kind of unwinding experience from all your stress. They have such lush greenery, traditional Mangalorean homestyle designs with split levels, courtyards, open verandah etc and it’s all well maintained. This is what we miss in chaotic city life. We should adapt this kind of lifestyle in cities as well. Metropolitan people should think more about eco-friendly culture and atmosphere.

While walking we noticed their outdoor activity areas like Basket Ball court, Tennis court, Cricket ground, a well-laid jogging track, Paintball and Shooting area etc. They also have indoor recreation activity areas like swimming pool with temperature control, Squash court, two Badminton courts with Oakwood flooring, a well-equipped gym, Yoga terrace, Table tennis, and Billiards – Pool Table. The only thing I missed this time was the Spa which will be opening soon. My hubby and I enjoyed playing Basket Ball, TT, and Badminton. We felt so rejuvenated after playing the games.

Their F&B includes Courtyard Café, Pavilion Bar, and Tamarind Restaurant.  We had a wonderful time relishing some good grub. We tried their lavish Buffet dinner and breakfast and also the a la carte lunch. The food was great. We mostly had fresh juices, tea/coffee, and also tried a couple of mocktails which was just okay. We spent most of the time in outdoor activities, so dining in the restaurant was more relaxing than going for the room service.

We hardly spend two days in Signature Club Resort and saw this place packed with corporate team outings, family celebrations etc. They have two nice banquet halls which are perfect for accommodating larger crowds.

Overall I enjoyed my staycation at Signature Club Resorts. Their package starts from ₹5800 onwards. Places to see around – Vineyards, Nandi Hills, Devanahalli Fort. To get exciting deals and membership details, contact – membership@signatureclubresort.com or dial 080 23086688

Sushi unrolled at The Fatty Bao this Summer!

Spring is the time for Sakura Matsuri or Cherry Blossom festival in Japan and I really wish to visit Japan once to enjoy this beauty. You will be wondering why I am mentioning about Cherry Blossom festival here. Japan is also famous for its gastronomic art in the form Sushi. Sushi is made of sticky rice, vinegar, fillings or toppings like vegetables, raw or cooked fish, and meat which often made using wrapped seaweed (Nori).  It’s time to say ‘Kanpai’ (Cheers in Japanese) as The Fatty Bao – the Asian Gastrobar is having a ‘Sushi Unrolled’ menu from March 22nd – April 8th, 2018. They have come up with 14 different Sushis, beyond our imagination and expectations; all inspired by the popular food from across the world. I was invited for a preview of this fest and savored some of the most amazing Sushis till date.

The Fatty Bao’s Executive Chef Prashanth has carefully curated this menu which consists of Cross Bred Tuna Pizza Sushi, Smoked Mackerel Sandwich Sushi, The Liberal Tobimayo Pita Pocket Sushi, Cheesy Beef Roll Sushi, Spicy Tempura Fried Prawn Roll Sushi, Rainbow Spin Sandwich Sushi, Cross Bred Salmon Taco to name few. From toppings to flavors and shapes and sizes, I was totally flabbergasted with this new Sushi experience along with some Edamame.

Traditionally Sushi is eaten with pickled ginger (Gari), Soya sauce and Wasabi. Though The Fatty Bao served all the accompaniments, one really doesn’t require all those as the Sushi itself is a burst of flavors. The Liberal Tobimayo Pita Pocket Sushi was a hit among all of us which was made of Crab meat, Tobiko mayo, chives, bonito flakes, shallots, avocado, crispy Gari and prawn crackers.

Another favorite was the Cross Bred Salmon Taco Sushi like the famous Mexican Tacos but with a Japanese Twist. This had flavors of Spicy Salmon, Sriracha Mayo, Yuzu Salsa, Avocado, and Tobiko.
Can you imagine Sushi in a Pizza form? I just couldn’t believe my eyes when they presented the ‘Cross Bred Tuna Pizza Sushi’ in front of us. This was such a beautiful and artistic dish which was well plated and rice was used as pizza base. If you are not a Tuna lover, then go for the veg version of this.

I enjoyed all the Sushis served and hope they will add some of the best ones on their menu. Why should Japanese have all the fun in Spring? This light, filling and tasty Sushis can be a great summer food for us as well.

We also got a chance to explore some of the dishes from their new menu –

Cold Green Tea Noodle Salad – A refreshing cold salad with hues of Green and for that extra oomph factor there was slices of Baby radish and chillies. This salad is a perfect way to begin your meal, especially for Bangalore’s current weather.

Smoked Sriracha Pork Spare Ribs – I just loved the flavors from this dish. The meat was so tender, juicy and had intense flavors of Sriracha sauce.

After a couple of rounds of Sushis, no one really cares about desserts but when you are at The Fatty Bao, you can’t miss their Michelin style plated desserts. We tried the Warm Apricot Pudding, Peanut Butter and Milk Chocolate Torte, and Brick Toast and it’s hard to say which one was the best. My vote goes for the 1st and 3rd one which had a bit of citrusy flavors and to balance the flavors there were ice creams and fruit compotes as well.

I enjoyed this hearty meal with a glass of Bora Bora which was Vodka and Gin based drink with a dash of passion fruit, green apple pieces and topped with coconut water - a perfect summer cooler I would say.

Nom.. nom.. nom.. Though all the Sushis were brilliantly done, I would go back to relish the ‘The Liberal Tobimayo Pita Pocket Sushi’, ‘Spicy Tempura Fried Prawn Roll Sushi’, and ‘Cheesy Beef Roll Sushi’. Do visit The Fatty Bao (Bangalore, Mumbai, and Kolkata) for a great Sushi experience never before. A meal for two would be ₹1500/- :)
