A lazy weekend lunch at Rural Blues Restrobar, Sarjapur Road, Bengaluru!

PC: Ms.Nandan

Recently, I visited Rural Blues at Sarjapur Road to celebrate the grand re-launch and to check out their new menu. The moment I entered this property, I was spellbound by the magic of white and blue colors. If you are looking for a #pictureperfect, and #instafriendly place for your pictures, then head to Rural Blues. This restrobar has amazing vibes with French doors-windows, water fountains, lovely Bougainvilleas and small fish ponds. This was my first time in Rural Blues with my pals and we had a great relaxed weekend lunch there. Chef Swatantra’s magical menu will go well with Geist craft beers.

I started my lunch with Geist’s Uncle Dunkel beer. I prefer dark beer and this one was perfect for the sunny late afternoon lunch.

PC: Ms.Nandan

Here are some of the must-try dishes at Rural Blues Restrobar –

Crispy Crunchy Prawns made of Filo pastry strips coating and served with Sriracha Mayo. This was brilliantly done.

Mushroom Dumpling made of four types of Mushrooms and served with a spicy dip. These were delicate, light and delicious.

Beef Bulgogi – Beef was marinated with Sake, Mirin, Soy and Miso sauces and grilled to perfection with a sprinkle of sesame seeds. A portion of Kimchi was served along with this.

South Indian Natholi (Anchovy) fish fry – Any fish lover’s favorite food with drinks; masala coated anchovies deep fried and served with Tomato Chili Thecha.

Pork Belly – Big chunks of slow-cooked Pork Belly served with Apple Puree. Pork Belly had amazing flavors and crispiness in the outer layer and middle portion lacked the flavors.

Mutton Kakkori – A friend suggested this and Mutton Kakkori was literally melt-in-the mouth dish. I really enjoyed having this.

This time we skipped the main course as we were so full by having appetizers. A friend ordered a healthy Quinoa Salad with Shrimp and the freshness of green leaves, flavors from chickpeas, quinoa and grilled shrimps made it an amazing salad.

For desserts, we tried the Trio Crème brûlée with Coffee, Caramel, and Cinnamon variants. I polished off the Coffee one – a must try dessert when you are at Rural Blues.

The service was quick and the staffs were very polite. Away from the hustle bustle of ORR, this can be considered for a romantic dining with some live music and good food. Overall I enjoyed my first visit to this restrobar and would love to visit again.

Kerala Food Festival (20 - 30th July 2018) by Chef Saji P Alex at Feast, Sheraton Grand Hotel, Bengaluru!

When I am super excited about something, especially when it is to write about an experience, I will end up with a temporary writer’s block. This time it’s about the ongoing Kerala Food Festival by visiting Chef Saji P Alex from Marriott Kochi at Feast – Sheraton Grand Hotel. All I knew about him was that, this is the same Chef who served a wonderful breakfast spread for MasterChef Australia Judges – Chef Gary Mehigan, Matt Preston and Chef George Calombaris and Gary’s post on Kallapam (Appam which contains toddy) and Meen Moilee became so popular all over the internet. It was a proud moment for Chef Anthony Huang’s team, who then was working with JW Marriott. Being a Malayali girl, I was happy to meet Chef Saji who comes from my place – Kochi. On the first day of the festival, a few of us were invited for a sneak peek of this festival and my experience in one word would be ‘delightful'.

Kerala is the land of cultural diversity. We have a long history of heritage and spice trading. An array of exotic spices like cardamom, pepper, star anise, nutmeg, cloves, etc are grown here and traded from this small state. The food from different regions of Kerala has always amazed me. Feast by Sheraton has done a great job by showcasing different cuisines of Kerala and to name few, Malabar, Backwaters, Syrian, Thattukada, and Plantation cuisines will be the main attraction.

The first day we tried the incomparable Malabar cuisine which has got Arabian, Persian and European influence. The northern part of Kerala is known as Malabar area and the food prepared here is not that spicy as compared to the central part of Kerala. We started with Chef’s special Ginger drink which was non-alcoholic and refreshing. We got to try some of Malabar style Seer fish curry, Meen Mulakittathu, Idiyappam (string hoppers) and Paratha (Porotta as we mallus call it) from live counters, Beef varattiyathu, Thakkali muringaka curry (Tomato- Drumstick curry), Veg & Mutton Kurma, Nei choru (Ghee rice), Chicken Chukka, Kozhi Biriyani (Chicken Biriyani) and loads and loads of condiments, pickles and snacks. Surprisingly the usual suspects like Avial and Fish Molee were not there (Thank God!). We can have a festival with only the pickles he made. It was so damn good. Most of the Keralites say ‘Kurachu chorum, ithiri, acharum , oru pappadavum mathi ooninu’ (just a small portion of rice with pickle and pappad is enough for lunch).

Happy me after a hearty meal :)
The Chef’s choice of buffet spread was sublime and flavors made me homesick. While talking to Chef Saji, I understood that he believes only in serving authentic flavors and he kept it as homely as possible. I truly enjoyed the meal I had at the Kerala Food Festival. Thanks to team Sheraton for coming up with Kerala Food Festival, which is close to my heart. The festival special spread is only available for dinner (6.30 – 11.30 PM) and priced at ₹1700 + taxes. #Yougottatryit

Tammie Brown lands at The Lalit - Get ready for a rocking Kitty Ko party on 21st July at The Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru!

Kitty Su and KittyKO are known for its repertoire of international acts. Distinct, path-breaking, and accompanied by a social message, best describe Kitty Su nights. Their drag acts have got a cult following, and Kitty Su/KO is ready with its next major drag act.

RuPaul’s Drag Race season 1 participant, Tammie Brown, is waiting to take on the Indian audiences. Now based in Los Angeles, California, drag came naturally to Keith Glen Schubert, who played dress-up and walked in high heels as a kid. This ‘classic, movie star glamour’ entertainer is Tammie Brown. Full of spunk and queen of their wishes, Tammie describes themselves as excited, rock 'n toll and tasty.

Apart from their drag acts, Tammie has featured in the American adaptation of How Clean Is Your House? They also did a cameo in Hot in Cleveland, and have been part of various commercials.
Tammie is undertaking a three city tour in India - New Delhi on July 19, Mumbai for a performance on July 20 and the tour will culminate at KittyKO in Bengaluru on July 21, 2018. Tammie’s act will be sparkled with some local flavour courtesy Rani-Ko-he-nur, who performs regularly at Kitty Su Mumbai and shall accompany Tammie in the three city-tour.

The Executive Director of the group, Mr Keshav Suri, was elated to share the news with patrons of Kitty Su, “I am a huge fan of drag acts and it gives me immense pleasure that guests at Kitty Su echo my sentiments. We have received a great response for all our events, with several of them enquiring about the next one. I am waiting for the day when this acceptance and applause is reflected in the status of LGBTQI community in society."

Mr Suri is an active advocate of LGBTQI rights. The LaLiT has undertaken several initiatives to increase awareness and bring about a chance in the way society perceives the community. Tammie Brown’s act is yet another step in that direction.
