This Summer vacation, take a break and visit Savi Garuda Farms at Garudapalya, Kolar!

This summer vacation, the best gift you can give to your child will be a trip to a farm. Take a break from the busy city life and go for a Savi Trails at Savi Garuda Farms at Garudapalya near Kolar District. A visit to this 250 acres of the farm will definitely rejuvenate your body and soul. Earlier last month, a couple of us were invited to this beautiful property which is hardly one hour drive from KR Puram. Visitors can select from two slots – 9 AM- 2 PM or 4 PM – 8 PM. The visit includes refreshments, tractor ride to the farm, a guide to mango harvesting, plucking vegetables and fruits and lot more interesting things to do, along with a Gowda style meal (lunch/dinner). If you are lucky you will spot deers, peacocks, and blackbucks.

On arrival at the beautiful traditional style farmhouse, three lovely ladies from Byra Gowda family – Manjula, Meenakshi, and Mrs.Gowda received us. Once you enter this serene property you will forget everything. This place is so magical and you feel like the wooden décor, old style red laterite walls, antique décor items, yellow and red oxide floorings, traditional swing, each and every item in this place is whispering something to you.

They welcomed us with refreshments and it was all homemade. In between our busy chatter session, we enjoyed some Watermelon juice, Masala pori (a snack made of puffed rice), Avarabele snack, kobari mittai, kajjaya, and garden fresh sapota (chikku).

Once we were back to relaxed mode, they took us for a tractor ride. The 250 acres of farm consists of Mango orchards, paddy field, a variety of vegetables - fruits, natural water bodies and stone structures, etc. They have mainly three varieties of Mangoes - Badami, Dushera, and Mallika. The duo sisters gave us more insights on Mangoes and it was an absolutely amazing view of mango flowers all over the trees.

Happy faces <3
After our farm visit, a grand ‘Gowdru style oota served on banana leaf’ was waiting for us. The special meals had interesting dishes like Ragi mudde (ragi balls), rasam, beans sambar, kosambari, masala vada, curd rice, palya, poori, chicken dish (dry), green gram snack, and payasa.

Chillaxing :P

I just love the fresh produces I've bought from Savi farms <3

After a scrumptious lunch, we spent some time at the property and now when I type this I just feel like going back to that relaxing atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Before leaving we bought plenty of fresh produces from them and trust me you’ll not get those organic products at a much lesser price anywhere in namma ooru.

I am waiting to visit this farm again in April-May when they start the mango plucking. If you love nature, then Savi farm is the best place to unwind yourself and breathe fresh air while you indulge in whole lotta activities :)
A big thanks to Arka communications and Rashmi for organizing this visit with an amazing group <3
